Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Reedsport Food Pantry or Project Brave Grab & Go. Our mission is to eliminate hunger in Coastal Douglas County. Hunger affects the lives of 2 out of 5 Coastal Douglas County residents. That statistic means you probably know someone who suffers from hunger. Volunteers are critical to our mission. As a volunteer you will not only help to feed the hungry, you will reduce stressors and give hope to the families and individuals you meet.

What do volunteers do? You will help move boxes, sweep floors, clean refrigerators, stock shelves, assist clients and clean totes.

What do you need to volunteer? You must be recommended by a teacher or principal. You must be willing to commit to volunteering at least 6 weeks. A completed Parent Permission Form is required prior to volunteering. At the community pantry, you will be volunteering in a warehouse setting, closed-toed shoes and shirts with sleeves are required. No tank tops, sandals, or high heels. No cleavage. No dresses or shorts. Clothing with strings and accessories that may be caught on equipment should be avoided. Temperatures in the Pantry can vary. Layers are recommended. No cell phones are allowed on the pantry floor.

All volunteers receive orientation and training. The pantry director tracks your hours and will gladly fill out your community service paperwork at the end of your 6-week commitment or at the end of each school quarter.

The Reedsport Food Pantry provides a service-learning opportunity for your students. We provide a professional and welcoming atmosphere, treating our clients with dignity and respect. We serve a vulnerable population, including the elderly and special needs clients.

Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teaches civic responsibility, and strengthens communities. The Reedsport Food Pantry hopes to provide an experience to students who want to do more than meet their minimum community service requirement.

The Reedsport Food Pantry requires receipt of this release, signed by a parent or guardian, before a minor may serve as a volunteer.

Board of Directors Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the board of directors of The Reedsport Collective (TRC).

The role of the board of directors is to work with the executive director to provide guidance and direction in advancing the mission and vision of TRC. Here is some information you should know about our work and what will be asked of you.

Mission:  We provide Coastal Douglas County residents access to basic needs that enable them to participate in a full and healthy life.

Vision:  We will work with community members, organizations, and institutions to advance equity to residents of Coastal Douglas County experiencing a lack of basic human needs to ensure the well-being of the community.

Values:  With dignity, respect, and an abundance mindset, we will meet our clients where they are to ensure their basic needs are met.

Duties include:

  • Uphold the mission and vision of TRC in both actions and interactions within and outside of board meetings.
  • Oversee the finances of the organization and provide guidance for the organization in accomplishing its mission.
  • Attend and actively participate in 75% or more of the scheduled monthly board meetings.
  • Actively participate in one or more fundraising activities
  • Participate in at least one subcommittee as needed

Time Commitments include:

  • Board meetings: third Tuesday of each month from 1:00pm – 2:30pm
  • Subcommittee work: Approximately 1-2 hours per month if committee work is needed
  • Serve a two-year term
